One of the cities in this country Uganda up north was shortlisted among others in Africa for the inaugural African Mayor Awards and it was named second best in Africa.
The awards acknowledges the leadership and contributions made by Mayors of large, medium and small cities across Africa and celebrate achievements and excellence in urban development in Africa.
Arua was the second best in Africa under the Small Cities category, for cities with up to 200,000 residents.
The African Mayor Awards program recognizes, celebrates and rewards City leaders who display exemplary qualities in leadership and vision, innovative thinking, management capabilities and integrity, social awareness, foster economic growth and development, ability to provide security and to protect the environment as well as the will and ability to foster good relations between communities from different cultural and social backgrounds.
The Africa Urban Infrastructure Investment Forum that was among the organizers stressed the importance of tapping into both African and international capital to finance infrastructure development, as well as seeking to identify viable and innovative financing models to make infrastructure projects more attractive to investors.
